On the 16th and 17th of June 2022, UNFPA supported the Delegation from North Macedonia to attend the Ministerial Conference on Ageing in Rome, organized by UNECE. The theme of the Conference was “Joining forces for solidarity and equal opportunities throughout life” and it marked the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing and its Regional Implementation Strategy (MIPAA/RIS).
The Delegation from North Macedonia was led by the Minister of Labor and Social Policy Ms. Jovanka Trenchevska and accompanied by the UNFPA representatives.
In the follow-up to the UNFPA’s Ministerial Conference on Demographic Resilience held in Sofia in December 2021, this event discussed the shifts that are necessary to allow societies to thrive amid rapid demographic change. Speakers focused on the importance of rights, health, and dignity in responses to population aging, and explored how harnessing the opportunities that come with population aging can strengthen demographic resilience.
”We are obliged to ensure peaceful, quiet pensioner days to our oldest citizens, who have invested themselves in building our homeland. We, the younger generations, are committed to working on the realization and effectuation of the human potential of people of different age groups.” stated the Minister of Labor and Social Policy Trenchevska.
