Skopje, 21 May 2024 – A roundtable "Healthy ageing in the Republic of North Macedonia: Current activities and challenges" was held today, organized by the United Nations Population Fund – UNFPA and the World Health Organisation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.
The event acted as a catalyst for revising North Macedonia’s strategy on healthy ageing and offered opportunities for stakeholders to showcase their current activities and next steps.
It hosted 35 participants, representatives from the Ministry of Health, more specifically the sector of primary and preventive healthcare, the PHC focal point, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, the National institute of Public Health, the Macedonian Red Cross, the “Ss Cyril and Methodius” University, the Medical Faculty, the Association of family medicine, the Association of PHC professionals, representatives from civil society organizations, as well as representatives from the specialized hospital of geriatric and palliative care.
The event opened discussions about drafting a new strategy or action plan that aligns with the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing or developing an action plan within the framework of the new Strategy for demographic policies 2024- 2044 that is in the final stage of development, in order to ensure harmonization of the activities so that our national policies reflect the latest global insights.
