Sexual and reproductive health encompasses key areas of UNFPA’s vision – that every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. The International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) held in Cairo, Egypt, in 1994 defines reproductive health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, in all matters relating to the reproductive system the right of men and women to be informed and to have access to safe, effective, affordable and acceptable methods of family planning of their choice.”
UNFPA in North Macedonia is working on Improved evidence – based legislation, policies, strategies and monitoring mechanisms, supported with allocation of proper national resources (financial and human) for quality sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights for all, especially in times of Covid-19, with focus on vulnerable groups and/or living in remote areas. The Country Office is also working on increased cross‐sectorial support to young people’s development, including availability of age appropriate and gender sensitive comprehensive sexuality education and establishment of participatory advocacy platforms for increased investment in marginalized adolescents and youth.
