Skopje, September 28, 2022 – “The presentation is a pioneering attempt to respond to the low availability of comprehensive statistical data according to the country of origin. In this way, we invite researchers and policymakers in North Macedonia to approach developing different methods for assessing migration flows based on the available statistical data on migration flows”.

This was stated today by John Masoti, the UNFPA Director for North Macedonia, in his opening address at the workshop before the national professional public with the aim of building capacities for statistics using the Bayesian hierarchical modeling, which serves as a statistical network for assessing migration flows between different countries.

The presentation was led by Professors Jakub Bijak and Peter Smith from the University of Southampton, England, who addressed the key challenges in the field of migration with guidance on the creative use of existing data, coordination, harmonization, and exchange of data, integration of multiple data sources through the use of statistical modeling, effective communication of results and a combination of measures and a structural model.
