Skopje, 23 January – Cervical cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death among women in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Annually, more than 46,000 new cases of cervical cancer and 21,000 deaths are registered in this region.

In our country, on average, 150 women get cervical cancer every year, a malignant disease which, if prevented in time, has a fatality rate of almost zero.

The UNFPA Office in North Macedonia together with the Ministry of Health started this year’s cervical cancer awareness campaign. The goal of this campaign is to inform the public, more specifically women, that this type of cancer could be almost entirely prevented through vaccination or screening, which can be done free of charge.

The National Campaign for Prevention and Early Detection of Cervical Cancer, which continuously works on activities related to early detection of this disease and timely initiation of treatment, delivered a clear message that prevention saves lives.
