Skopje, 20 November 2021 - The "Older People Care Week" was marked from November 15 to 21, during which the Red Cross mobile teams, supported by the United Nations Population Fund - UNFPA in North Macedonia, provided free services for procurement and delivery of medicine, food and other necessary items to the homes of retirees. The mobile teams were composed of a nurse and a volunteer who measured the blood pressure and glycemia of the older people.

In one week, 400 older people were visited. The users of the services say that the visits of the mobile teams are very important for them and help them in performing their daily responsibilities.

Eight mobile teams provided free services for procurement and delivery of food, hygiene and medicine.

Within the celebration of the "Older People Care Week", 20 informative workshops were organized where the older people were introduced to their rights in the field of social and health care, as well as three pieces of training for caregivers to provide assistance and care for the older people and people with disabilities. The pieces of training included 30 long-term unemployed vulnerable people who were trained to provide care and assistance to the older people at home.

The celebration of the "Older People Care Week" aims to raise public awareness of the need to increase their integration in all spheres of social life and the need to provide care and assistance to the elderly.

It is celebrated under the motto "We are all their children".
